- Invoice number, issue date, due date and the areas covered by this invoice
- Square footage or room count, with the number of coats applied
- Surfaces included — walls, ceilings, trim, doors — priced separately
- Preparation billed separately from painting: patching, sanding, masking, priming
- Paint by product, sheen and colour, with the quantity used
- Deposit taken for materials, with its date, deducted from the total
- Progress stage: which rooms or elevations this invoice bills for
- Touch-up holdback, if any, stated as an amount and a release condition
